Did you know your computer keyboard is home to more harmful bacteria than your toilet? As disgusting as it may sound, studies have shown that dirty computer equipment spreads illness-causing bacteria and viruses like wildfire. This season, when you start your spring cleaning, don't forget to clean the germs and junk out of your keyboard. If you really want to disinfect and declutter your qwerty, follow the tutorial below for the deepest clean possible...just make sure you print out a picture of a keyboard beforehand!
Start off by removing each key with a butter knife.
You can already see all the dirt that hides under the keys. Yuck!
Put the keys into a container with a tight-fitting lid.
Fill the container with water and dish soap.
Shake the container until it fills with suds, ensuring that each key gets a good cleaning.
Pour the soapy keys into a colander. Rinse them off with cold water.
Set the keys on a paper towel to dry.
While the keys are drying, turn your keyboard upside down and tap it gently. This will remove large pieces of dust and debris.
Spray your keyboard with compressed air to blow out the smaller pieces of dirt.
Now wipe your keyboard down with a disinfecting cloth.
Once your keys and keyboard have dried out, it's time to reattach the keys. Use a picture of a keyboard to verify the positioning.
